CRAIG PAPWORTH & DARRELL PACKE
Darrell Packe

DARRELL

Darrell Packe wants others to experience the thrill of paragliding, and as the person behind Mount Paragliding he is often instructing students or taking tandems.

Surrounded by great flying sites, Darrell enjoys coastal flying, speed flying, XC (cross country) and hike & fly.

Although it's the XC and hike & fly that really appeal to his sense of adventure. Flying remote, rugged locations draws on all of his skills as a pilot and ignites his passion for the outdoors.

It's no surprise then that he was keen to team up with Craig to embark on a new adventure in the European Alps.

Craig Papworth

CRAIG

Craig Papworth started flying hangliders in the United Kingdom and after six years he then became a qualifed paragliding pilot in Australia.

Of the 20 years he's been paragliding, 11 of those have been as a professional tandem pilot. Craig has flown professional tandems in many locations around the world, including Neuswanstein Castle in Germany, the Stubai Valley in Austria, Brauneck in Germany, and Pokhara in Nepal.

In 2008 he founded a tandem paragliding business in Munich, Germany where he co-led paragliding tours for nine years with Phil Hystec Paragliding Queensland.

Tour destinations included Bir in the Indian Himalayas, Nepal, European Alps, South Africa, Reunion Island (region of France in the Indian Ocean), and Madagascar.

A change of circumstances has brought Craig to New Zealand and he has now combined forces with Darrell Packe at Mount Paragliding to offer a unique European paragliding tour experience. Through Craig's extensive overseas experience, you will fly some of the best paragliding sites in the world - combining breathtaking scenery, consistent wind conditions, easy launches and landings.

This will undoubtedly be a trip of a lifetime!

WHERE YOU WILL STAY

Accommodation image

Florimontane is located in the Echarvines village between Menthon-St-Bernard and Talloires center, 55km from the Geneva airport.

Perfectly situated for paragliding, it is 400m from the Perroix/Planfait Paragliding landing zone. Menthon village centre shops/services, supermarket and bakery are a short 800m walk.

"Lovely B&B with a slight focus on paragliding pilots due to the proximity to Planfait launch. You can just look up and see if people are flying.
Very clean, air conditioned and our apartment was fully self contained. The breakfast is very good and Nadine and Antoine are very welcoming hosts."
- Calin, Australia

The Alpenhof is located at the end of Switzerland's Lauterbrunnen Valley, or the 'Valley of Waterfalls', and is perfectly situated for alpine tours. In the heart of the Bernese Oberland Stechelberg it's the ideal location for Paragliding.

Homely and comfortable with breathtaking views of the valley and surrounding waterfalls.

The friendly owners will go out of their way to make our stay enjoyable.

"Comfortable beds, friendly staff and fantastic views everywhere." Brian, USA

ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS

Up to 24 sites will be flown during the tour.

You must be able to frontal and reverse launch and have some air time so you are confident in high mountains. Contact Darrell if you're unsure.

You will be required to have your own Paragliding equipment for the tour.

Mount Paragliding can supply equipment so contact Darrell if you're in need of anything.

Of course, double the fun!

The tours run from France to Switzerland and return, finishing in France.

Of course, but due to limited numbers in the van they will have to pay our fee.

We provide tandem flights for partners throughout the tour so they certainly won't feel left out. In fact, they may get hooked on our beautiful sport!

You are required to organise your own flights to get to the tour start location on the due date.

Airfares from Auckland to Geneva or Zurich are currently $1600-$2000 NZD return, as an example.

If you have a current NZ passport that is valid for a minimum of 3 months, and have a return ticket then you don't need to do anything.

We will have a great tour with loads of fun. Flying and staying together helps us get to know each other to make the tour even more enjoyable.

However, if you wish to organise your own accommodation or stay with friends that is no problem. Just let us know so we can advise the accommodation providers.

Fee: $2300

Van transport throughout the tour.

Guidance on launch, during flight and landing where required.

Local weather knowledge. We have contacts at all the sites we call to discuss the day's best flying options.

Provide local knowledge on launch sites, landing options and restrictions. This is important as it saves you having to research flying sites and avoid breaking any site rules by leaving that up to us.

You just turn up, fly and enjoy the stunning locations!

Buying a swiss travel pass will get you gondola, cog train and cable car travel. You can buy these to suit your travel requirements and can be purchased on arrival. To get to some launch sites we will need to ride these methods of transport.

Travel insurance is important including medical insurance. Covermore covers adventure sports - follow the link below to check pricing and get your insurance.

Personal spending money, food, drink and of course any activities you wish to do.

The 50% deposit ($1,150) is non-refundable and the remainder of the fee ($1,150 ) is due 60 days prior to the tour start date.

Payment should be made through the Mount Paragliding website which accepts all major credit cards and internet banking payments.

Q Card or Q Master Card finance is also available.

If you haven't been able to fly regularly prior to the tour then get as much ground handling practice as possible.

We recommend 20 hours logged ground handling in the two months leading up to the tour so you are confident to launch first time. This removes the stress of launching and helps with your wing control.

You must be able to frontal and reverse launch.
