Course Weather Dependency

All of our courses are weather dependent. If your chosen course date is postponed due to weather, unforeseen circumstances or your availability you can join any of our other course dates by simply indicating on WhatsApp you would like to attend.

Our courses run from September through April however the most consistent weather for paragliding tends to be December through March.

If a course is postponed due to unsuitable weather conditions a course credit will automatically apply and can be used at any time within a 24 month period (refer Validity Period below). You are then welcome to join any of our courses by simply letting us know on WhatsApp that you will be attending, this is important for equipment allocation purposes.

After Signing Up

After signing up for any of our courses you will be sent a welcome email containing detailed course information and the link to join our Mount Paragliding WhatsApp group.

In that email will be a link to complete our medical and waiver form, and a link to join the New Zealand Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association (NZHGPA). Both must be completed prior to your first day of training.

Upon receiving the email with the relevant information, if there is anything more you require please contact us at darrell@mountparagliding.co.nz

Validity Period

Courses and gift vouchers are valid for 24 months from the date of purchase.

This means that the course must be completed within 24 months from the date of purchase, after which it will expire and therefore no longer be valid.

The 24 month validity period for all of our courses and gift vouchers takes into account availability on our courses and applies to all instances including outside influences such as the weather.

PG1 Course Refund Policy

If you were unable to attend your course dates, you have 24 months to join one of our other courses (subject to availability).

However, if you choose to request a refund we will deduct credit card fees (2.7%) and an equipment holding fee of $100 per month from your course payment. When signing up for the PG1 course a paraglider, harness, helmet and UHF radio are assigned to you based on your height and weight to ensure we have the appropriate gear when you join us.

PG2 Course Equipment Rental

You have the option to rent equipment or buy equipment when you sign up to our PG2 course.

The NZHGPA PG2 criteria includes 40 flights. This means you must complete 40 flights under the supervision of an instructor to complete this course and become eligible to be signed off as PG2 solo paraglider pilot. You can find the minimum course requirements on our PG2 course page.

Rental equipment usage is for the period of 40 flights, after 40 flights a fee of $200 per day will apply for continued equipment use and Instruction.

Paramotor Course

During the free flight phase of this course Mount Paragliding will provide equipment.

Once the pilot moves to the motor training they are required to have their own paramotor, helmet and headset for communication.

Course Sign Off

The NZHGPA criteria for courses are minimum requirements and other factors must be considered prior to sign off:

- Pilot attitude to the sport and fellow pilots

- Pilot attitude to land owners rights

- Pilot attitude in following all guidelines set out by NZHGPA both in daily operations and in the most recent Operations and Procedures manual found here

A great deal of work goes into our association (NZHGPA) working with Civil Aviation NZ enabling us to fly and as such we must all work together to do the right thing.

A pilot cannot be signed off to become an unsupervised pilot if there is any doubt regarding the above.

No Cash Value

Our courses and gift vouchers do not have a cash value, and cannot be redeemed for cash.

Safety Statement

Mount Paragliding Safety Statement & Warning Of Risks:

By choosing to purchase any goods or services from us you agree that you have read and accepted our safety statement.

Paragliding is a form of aviation with all of the inherent and potential dangers that are involved in aviation. No form of aviation is without risk, and injuries and death can occur in paragliding, even to trained pilots using proper equipment. Whilst Mount Paragliding endeavours to minimise this risk as far as is reasonably practicable, it cannot be eliminated altogether.

Paragliding is classed as an 'extreme sport', and an 'adventurous' and 'dangerous' activity, which carries with it - like all adventure sports and flying/aviation activities - an associated risk of possible serious injury or even death. If you are not prepared to take this risk, you shouldn't participate in paragliding - or participate in any 'extreme sport', 'adventurous' or 'dangerous' activity, or flying / aviation activities.

Of course we will always try to minimise this risk, and ensure that your flying is as safe as possible, but we can never promise to remove this element of risk completely. This is simply not possible; anyone who thinks otherwise is mistaken.

No one should participate in paragliding who does not recognise and wish to personally assume the associated risks.

Mount Paragliding will always endeavour to do everything it can within reason to ensure that you get the best and safest paragliding tuition and tandem paraglider flights humanly possible. Your safety is always our highest priority.

At Mount Paragliding we aim to provide the highest standard of training whilst ensuring that risks to your safety are kept as low as reasonably practicable. To achieve this we:

- regularly maintain and inspect all equipment to ensure safe working order.

- carry out regular risk assessments of all training sites and weather conditions whilst we are using the sites for training.

- follow NZHGPA operations and procedures guidelines.
